Nicole Turner iluminou o Centro Aquático Nacional Sport Ireland, ao conquistar a primeira medalha de prata da Irlanda no Campeonato Europeu do World Par Nadar Allianz.
A prova de 50 metros borboleta foi considerada a melhor chance de Nicole para uma medalha em Dublin 2018 e por isso provou como ela foi capaz de se alimentar de uma atmosfera incrível para, em um tempo de 36,75, reivindicar sua medalha de prata para a Irlanda.
Turner, que chegou à final em cada um dos seus cinco eventos até o momento, esteve perto da medalha por várias vezes esta semana, mas ela não cometeu nenhum erro em seu evento favorito.
James Scully também estava em ótima forma quando foi para a piscina na primeira final do dia no 100M Freestyle S5. Scully, que nadou na raia 1, deu tudo o que tinha na sua úlitma prova em Dublin, , e ficou encantado com o que foi uma de suas melhores performances desde os Jogos Paralímpicos do Rio.

Barry McClements foi o outro nadador irlandês a encerrar a campanha de Dublin 2018. McClements classificou-se como o oitavo nadador classificado para a final terminando em 6º lugar geral após uma performance de luta. O jovem de 16 anos, de Newtownards, ficou muito satisfeito com a sua semana e será um sério candidato à medalha para os Jogos Paralímpicos de Tóquio 2020.
No começo do dia, Sean O’Riordan havia competido nas baterias do 100M Freestyle masculino, onde ele estabeleceu outro recorde pessoal.

Sean O’Riordan e Patrick Flanagan também esperam ter mais uma chance de medalhas amanhã, e Ellen Keane irá para o ouro em seu evento mais forte, o 100M peito SB8 feminino.

Foi uma semana impressionante de performances de quebra de recordes. Foi o sábado que mais produziu em qualquer outro dia, foram cinco recordes mundiais e dois novos recordes europeus que foram alcançados no Centro Aquático Nacional Sport Ireland.
O italiano Antonio Fantin deu o tom ao produzir um novo recorde mundial no 100M Freestyle S5 masculino.
Jessica Jane Applegate, da Grã-Bretanha, Liesette Bruinsma, da Holanda, o lendário Ihar Boki, da Bielorrússia, e Denys Dubrov, estabeleceram novas marcas no local de Dublin.
Lisa Kruger estabeleceu um novo recorde europeu no 200metros medley SM10 feminino e a equipe Italiana de Revezamento Livre 4 x 50m completando a ação na piscina com um novo recorde europeu.
Uma incrível semana de provas em Dublin trouxe nada menos que 20 novos recordes mundiais e mais 6 novos recordes europeus, e ainda falta um dia e tudo pode vir.

Turner Surges to Silver Medal

Nicole Turner lit up the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre as she claimed Ireland’s first silver medal of the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships.

The 50M Butterfly S6 event was considered Nicole’s best chance for a medal in the lead up to Dublin 2018 and so it proved as she was able to feed off an incredible atmosphere to storm home in 36.75 and claim her silver medal for Ireland. Turner, who reached the final in each of her 5 events to date, had been close to that elusive medal several times this week but she made no mistake in her favorite event.

James Scully was also in great form as he took to the pool for the first final of the day in the 100M Freestyle S5. Scully, who raced in Lane 1, gave everything he had left in his final race of Dublin 2018 and was delighted with what was one of his best performances since the Rio Paralympics Games.

Barry McClements was the other Irish swimmer to bring his Dublin 2018 campaign to a close. McClements had qualified as the 8th ranked swimmer for the final and he went on to defy those rankings as he finished in 6th place overall after a battling performance. Overall the 16 year old Newtownards man will be very pleased with his week and will be a serious medal contender for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Earlier in the day Sean O’Riordan had competed in the heats of the Men’s 100M Freestyle where he set another Personal Best.

Ireland’s newest European Silver medallist, Nicole Turner, will return to competition tomorrow in the Women’s 100m Freestyle S6 at 10:44am. Sean O’Riordan and Patrick Flanagan will also hope to get one more chance at medals tomorrow and Ellen Keane will go for gold in her strongest event, the Women’s 100M Breaststroke SB8.

On a stunning week of Record Breaking performances it was Saturday that produced the most of any other day. 5 World Records and 2 new European Records were set in the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre on Saturday.

Italy’s Antonio Fantin set the tone as he produced a new World Record in the Men’s 100M Freestyle S5. Jessica Jane Applegate of Great Britain, Liesette Bruinsma from the Netherlands, the legendary Ihar Boki from Belarus and Denys Dubrov all set new marks in the Dublin venue. Lisa Kruger set a new European Record in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley SM10 and the curtain came down on the event im the best possible fashion with the Italian Mixed 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay team completing the action in the pool with a new European Record.

An incredible week of Action in Dublin has brought no fewer than 20 new World Records and a further 6 new European Records with the 7th and final day of action yet to come.
