Adam Peaty quebrou o recorde do campeonato nos 100m de nado de peito em Glasgow 2018, com os companheiros de equipe James Wilby e Ross Murdoch se classificando em segundo e terceiro lugares, respectivamente.
O atual campeão quebrou seu próprio CR com um tempo de 57,89, mas disse que quebrar o recorde mundial não estava em sua mente quando ele entrou na semifinal mais tarde hoje.
O atleta de 23 anos disse: “Hoje eu tenho um trabalho a fazer, e tenho um trabalho ainda mais importante a ser feito depois.
“Eu estou em boa forma, então quem sabe o que poderia acontecer. Eu tenho uma proposta – não estou falando de 56, não estou falando de recordes mundiais, estou apenas começando a me divertir.
“Eu quero reconstruir a confiança que as pessoas têm em mim – isso é o que eu nasci para fazer. Eu nasci para nadar e em uma piscina em casa eu posso realmente prosperar.”
O campeonato começou bem para os nadadores britânicos, com Aimee Wilmott e Hannah Miley se classificando para a final dos 400m medley. Abbie Wood foi o décimo nadador mais rápido nas eliminatórias.

Nick Pyle, recém-saído do Europeu Junior em Helsinque, se classificou para as semifinais dos 50 metros costas no dia 17, com o companheiro de equipe Luke Greenbank em 38o.
Alys Thomas avançou para as semifinais do evento 100 metros borboleta em 11º, com Charlotte Atkinson também se classificando em 17º. Emily Large, um dos cinco membros da equipe que competiram no nível europeu júnior e sênior neste verão, terminou em 20º.

A equipe feminina de 4x100m freestyle, composta por Lucy Hope, Anna Hopkin, Ellie Faulkner e Freya Anderson, foi a sétima mais rápida nas eliminatórias, o que significa que eles fizeram as finais desta tarde. Porém a equipe masculina com Calum Jarvis, Craig McLean, James Guy e David Cumberlidge, perdeu a oportunidade de progredir depois de terminar em 10º na primeira vez que a Inglaterra disputou este evento desde 2013.
Stephen Milne e Jay Lelliott perderam por pouco no evento de 400 metros livres, terminando em 12º e 13º geral, mas Milne conseguiu o melhor desempenho da temporada, um dos principais alvos da equipe britânica neste encontro.

Anna Hopkin, por pouco, perdeu a chance de passar para as semifinais de 50 metros livres depois, perdendo os pontos de qualificação em 19º lugar. Freya Anderson terminou em 24º na bateria com Lucy Hope em 38º.

A equipe do GBR Synchro garantiu uma vaga na final no dia de abertura da competição no Campeonato Europeu de Glasgow 2018 para o evento Livre.
Sua pontuação no final da sessão preliminar foi 78,3667, que classificou a equipe em nono. Os 12 principais países avançaram até a final prevista para a tarde de sábado no Scotstoun Sports Campus.
Sete membros da equipa júnior – Millicent Costello, Greta Hampson, Daniella Lloyd, Daisy Rushton, Harriette Smith, Abigail Taylor e Victoria Usher – alinharam-se novamente em Glasgow, enquanto a oitava membro – Ilaria Brandimarte – também está a estrear na Europa esta semana. .
O Campeonato Europeu encerrará uma temporada de competições movimentadas para a jovem equipe britânica.

Swimming: Peaty leads Brit 1-2-3 in Glasgow 2018 opener
Adam Peaty broke the championship record in the 100m breaststroke heats at Glasgow 2018, with team mates James Wilby and Ross Murdoch qualifying in second and third place respectively.
The defending champion broke his own CR with a time of 57.89, but said breaking the World Record was not on his mind as he went into the semis later today.
The 23-year-old said: “Today I had a job to do, and I’ve got an even more important job to do later.
“I’m in good shape, so who knows what could happen. I’ve got a ban – I’m not talking about 56, I’m not talking about World Records I’m just getting back to enjoying it.
“I want to rebuild that confidence people have in me – this is what I was born to do. I was born to race and in a home arena I can really thrive.”
The 2018 Europeans started well for the British swimmers, with Aimee Wilmott and Hannah Miley qualifying for the final of the 400m IM. Abbie Wood came in tenth fastest overall across the heats.

Alys Thomas progressed to the semis of the 100m butterfly event in 11th, despite describing the race as “messy” with Charlotte Atkinson also qualifying in 17th. Emily Large, one of five team members to have competed at both junior and senior European level this summer finished 20th.
The 4x100m freestyle women’s team, made up of Lucy Hope, Anna Hopkin, Ellie Faulkner and Freya Anderson were seventh quickest in the heats, meaning they made this afternoon’s finals, but the men’s team, Calum Jarvis, Craig McLean, James Guy and David Cumberlidge, missed out of the opportunity to progress after finishing 10th in the first time Britain has contested this event since 2013.
Stephen Milne and Jay Lelliott both narrowly missed progressing in the 400m freestyle event, finishing 12th and 13th overall but Milne managed a season’s best performance in the process – one of the key targets for the British squad at this meet.
Anna Hopkin narrowly missed the chance to go through to the 50m freestyle semis later, missing the qualification spots my one place in 19th. Freya Anderson finished in 24th in the heats and Lucy Hope 38th.
Synchro: Glasgow Team Free final for Brits
The GBR Synchro team have secured a finals berth on the opening day of competition at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships for the Team Free event.

Their score at the end of the prelims session was 78.3667, which ranked them ninth. The top 12 nations have progress through to the final scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Scotstoun Sports Campus.

Seven members of the junior team – Millicent Costello, Greta Hampson, Daniella Lloyd, Daisy Rushton, Harriette Smith, Abigail Taylor and Victoria Usher – lined up again in Glasgow while the eighth member – Ilaria Brandimarte – is also making her senior European debut this week.

The European Championships will bring a busy competition season to a close for the young British team.
