Equipe feminina de Polo Aquático dos EUA vence a Austrália pela segunda vez consecutiva

Pebble Beach, CA – 22 de agosto – A seleção feminina dos EUA conquistou sua segunda vitória consecutiva sobre a Austrália ontem a noite, com uma vitória por 11-4 na Stevenson School. Uma piscina lotada aplaudiu a equipe dos EUA, com quatro jogadores que marcaram dois gols, incluindo Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA / Stanford / NYAC), Makenzie Fischer (Laguna Beach, CA / Stanford / SET), Stephania Haralabidis (Atenas, Grécia / USC / NYAC) e Rachel Fattal (Seal Beach, Califórnia / UCLA / SOCAL). Ashleigh Johnson (Miami, FL / Princeton / NYAC) e Amanda Longan (Moorpark, CA / USC / Santa Bárbara 805) combinaram nove defesas em rede.

As duas equipes terminam a série no domingo na Santa Barbara High School, em Santa Bárbara, CA, às 14h. O ex-atleta aposentado Kami Craig será homenageado durante a partida. 

 
Muito parecido com a vitória de domingo em Berkeley, a equipe dos EUA teve um começo quente e foi liderada por Kiley Neushul (Isla Vista, CA / Stanford / NYAC) com um gol inicial. A equipe dos EUA construiu uma vantagem de 3 a 0 no primeiro tempo, mas a Austrália lutou para deixa em 3-2. A equipe dos EUA manteve a Austrália sem gols no segundo quarto, ao adicionar mais três gols para levar uma vantagem de 6-2 ao intervalo.
Makenzie Fischer fez 7 a 2 no terceiro ante a Austrália. Os Estados Unidos marcaram novamente no terceiro e foi para o quarto em 8-3. A 10-4 do quarto, Kaleigh Gilchrist (Newport Beach, CA / USC / NYAC) colocou a partida para descansar com um forte backhand para dar aos Estados Unidos a vantagem de 11-4.

USA Women Defeat Australia 11-4 At Stevenson For Second Straight Win
Pebble Beach, CA – August 22 – The USA Women’s National Team picked up their second straight win over Australia tonight, claiming an 11-4 win at the Stevenson School. A crowded pool deck cheered on Team USA as four different players scored two goals each including Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Stanford/NYAC), Makenzie Fischer (Laguna Beach, CA/Stanford/SET), Stephania Haralabidis (Athens, Greece/USC/NYAC) and Rachel Fattal (Seal Beach, CA/UCLA/SOCAL). Ashleigh Johnson (Miami, FL/Princeton/NYAC) and Amanda Longan (Moorpark, CA/USC/Santa Barbara 805) combined for nine saves in net.

Much like Sunday’s win in Berkeley, Team USA got off to a hot start and it was led by Kiley Neushul (Isla Vista, CA/Stanford/NYAC) with an early goal. Team USA built a 3-0 lead in the first but Australia battled back with two straight to make it a 3-2 match after one. That would be as close as the game would get. Team USA held Australia scoreless in the second quarter while adding three more goals to take a 6-2 lead into intermission.

Makenzie Fischer made it 7-2 in the third before Australia got back on the board with a tally. The United States scored again in the third and went to the fourth up 8-3. Ahead 10-4 in the fourth, Kaleigh Gilchrist (Newport Beach, CA/USC/NYAC) put the match to rest with a strong backhand to give the United States the 11-4 lead.

Team USA went 5/11 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties while Australia was 1/7 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty.
