A medalha de ouro que os torcedores irlandeses esperaram por uma semana finalmente aconteceu no último dia do Campeonato Mundial de Pará Natação Allianz no domingo (19 de agosto).
Foi o destaque emocional de um dia que também viu a Ucrânia bater a marca de 100 medalhas ficando no topo da tabela em Dublin e um recorde de seis anos quebrado pela italiana Simone Barlaam.

Quando Ellen Keane terminou em primeiro lugar no peito de 100m das mulheres SB8 (1: 23.29), o Centro Aquático Nacional entrou em festa liderado pelos pais de Keane, Laura e Eddie, em seus ternos verdes de trevo.

“Eu estava tão nervosa, mas a melhor coisa sobre o nado peito é que você realmente consegue ver a multidão quando respira. Eles me empurraram e realmente me ajudaram. Isso significa muito”, disse Keane.
A espanhola Nuria Marques Soto terminou com prata e a grega Efthymia Gkouli com bronze.

UCRÂNIA INTOCÁVEL
Com uma média de 15 medalhas por dia os nadadores ucranianos conseguirem chegar ao pódio mais de cem vezes em Dublin.
Vasyl Krainyk sabia que a contagem total estava em 99 quando ele pulou na água para os 200 metros do SM14 medley individual. Ele foi o quarto no primeiro turno, depois o segundo no último e, no final, fez a 100ª medalha de ouro. (2:12,72).
“Eu sabia que estávamos perto de cem medalhas e senti muita pressão. Mas agora estou muito feliz”, disse Krainyk, que conquistou seu primeiro ouro depois de três medalhas de bronze na Irlanda. A Ucrânia ganhou outras três medalhas de ouro no domingo.
Yelyzaveta Mereshko terminou em primeiro lugar no 100m freestyle S6 feminino (1: 11.51) em sua quarta vitória em eventos individuais no Euro. Maksym Krypak também conseguiu seu quarto ouro individual na Irlanda nos 100 metros livres S10 masculino (50,92).
Yaroslav Semenenko venceu o borboleta S5 de 50 metros masculino (35,90). A Ucrânia terminou o Campeonato Europeu de 2018 com 106 medalhas (33 de ouro, 44 de prata e 29 de bronze).

BARLAAM QUEBRA RECORDE MUNDIAL
A Itália terminou em segundo na classificação com 28 medalhas de ouro, 23 de prata e 21 de bronze. Os italianos também foram responsáveis pelo 22º e último recorde mundial quebrado em Dublin 2018.
Simone Barlaam estabeleceu uma nova marca para os 50 metros livre S9 masculino (25,00), um recorde que vinha desde os Jogos Paraolímpicos de Londres 2012.
“Estou tentando quebrar esse recorde há muito tempo e finalmente consegui. Não foi 24,99, mas meu principal objetivo era o ouro”, disse Barlaam, que mais tarde ajudou o medley de 4x100m a reter a equipe de 34 pontos para outro ouro.
Também houve três vitórias para a Itália nos eventos femininos, Giulia Ghiretti na 50m borboleta S5 (46,68), Carlotta Gilli nos 50m livre S13 (26,90) e Alessia Berra na 100m borboleta S12 (1: 06,43).
A Grã-Bretanha terminou em terceiro na tabela de medalhas com 20 ouros, 18 pratas e 17 de bronze, o que incluiu outro pódio na categoria S14 feminina.
Bethany Firth venceu os 200m individual medley SM14 (2: 22,82), seguido por Jessica-Jane Applegate e Louise Fiddes.
Michael Jones no 400m livre masculino S7 (4: 48,54) e o revezamento 4x100m medley feminino com 34 pontos (4: 53.62) levaram mais ouro para os britânicos no último dia.

SETE EM SETE PARA BOKI
Ihar Boki, da Bielorrússia, conquistou seu sétimo ouro em sete provas nos 50m livre masculino S13 (23,77). Havia mais ouro para a Bielorrússia nos 100 metros da borboleta S12 masculino com Dzmitry Salei (57,36).
A Espanha conseguiu três vitórias no último dia. Em primeiro lugar, Oscar Salguero Galisteo reivindicou o 100m peito masculino SB8 (1: 09.24) e, em seguida, Israel Oliver venceu a borboleta masculina S11 (1: 05.44).
Sarai Gascon completou o sucesso, alcançando o pódio pela terceira vez nos Euro, desta vez no S9 feminino de 50 metros livres (29,01).
Os dois vencedores holandeses do dia também conquistaram o terceiro ouro de Dublin 2018 no domingo; Chantalle Zijderveld nos 100m livre feminino S10 (1: 01.21) e Thijs van Hofweegen nos 100m livre masculino S6 (1: 06.08).
O detentor do recorde mundial, Arnost Petracek, levou o seu segundo ouro e o da República Tcheca, em Dublin, nos 50m do S4 (44.87).
Nora Meister colocou a Suíça na primeira posição pela segunda vez nos Euros, nos 400m livres femininos S7 (5: 21.20).
A Grécia conquistou o seu sexto ouro nos Euros, após a vitória de Alexandra Stamatopoulou nos 50m costas femininas S4 (53,29).

Dublin 2018: Ellen Keane wins for Ireland on final day
The gold medal the Irish fans waited a week for finally happened on the closing day of the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships on Sunday (19 August).

It was the emotional highlight of a day that also saw Ukraine beat the 100-medal mark to top the table in Dublin and a six-year-old record broken by Italy’s Simone Barlaam.

When Ellen Keane finished first in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB8 (1:23.29), the National Aquatic Centre erupted in celebration – led by Keane’s parents Laura and Eddie in their green Shamrock suits.

“I was so nervous but the best thing about the breaststroke is that you actually get to see the crowd when you breathe. They pushed me and really helped me. This means so much,” said Keane.

Spain’s Nuria Marques Soto finished with silver and Greece’s Efthymia Gkouli with bronze.

UNTOUCHABLE UKRAINE

With an average of 15 medals per day, it was not a question of if Ukrainian swimmers could reach the podium more than one hundred times in Dublin – but when.

Vasyl Krainyk knew the total count was at 99 when he jumped in the water for the men’s 200m individual medley SM14. He was fourth in the first turn, then second in the last one and, in the end, made the 100th medal a gold one. (2:12.72).

“I knew we were close to a hundred medals and I felt a lot of pressure. But now I am just so happy,” said Krainyk who took his first gold after three bronze medals in Ireland.

Ukraine won other three gold medals on Sunday. Yelyzaveta Mereshko finished first in the women’s 100m freestyle S6 (1:11.51) in her fourth victory in individual events at the Euros.

Maksym Krypak also bagged his fourth individual gold in Ireland in the men’s 100m freestyle S10 (50.92). Yaroslav Semenenko won the men’s 50m butterfly S5 (35.90).

Ukraine finished the 2018 European Championships with 106 medals (33 gold, 44 silver and 29 bronze).

BARLAAM BREAKS WORLD RECORD

Italy ended second in the standings with 28 golds, 23 silver and 21 bronze. The Italians were also responsible for the 22nd and last world record broken at Dublin 2018.

Simone Barlaam established a new mark for the men’s 50m freestyle S9 (25.00), a record which had stood since the London 2012 Paralympics.

“I’ve been trying to break this record for a long time and I’ve finally made it. It was not 24.99 but my main goal was the gold,” said Barlaam, who later helped the 4x100m medley relay 34 points team to another gold.

There also were three victories for Italy in women’s events, Giulia Ghiretti in the 50m butterfly S5 (46.68), Carlotta Gilli in the 50m freestyle S13 (26.90) and Alessia Berra in the 100m butterfly S12 (1:06.43).

Great Britain finished third in the medals table with 20 golds, 18 silvers and 17 bronze which included another podium sweep in the women’s S14 class.

Bethany Firth won the 200m individual medley SM14 (2:22.82) followed by Jessica-Jane Applegate and Louise Fiddes.

Michael Jones in the men’s 400m freestyle S7 (4:48.54) and the women’s 4x100m medley relay 34 points team (4:53.62) took more gold for the Brits on the final day.

SEVEN IN SEVEN FOR BOKI

Belarus’ Ihar Boki won his seventh gold in seven races in the men’s 50m freestyle S13 (23.77). There was more gold for Belarus in the men’s 100m butterfly S12 with Dzmitry Salei (57.36).

Spain bagged three victories on the final day. Firstly, Oscar Salguero Galisteo claimed the men’s 100m breaststroke SB8 (1:09.24) title and then Israel Oliver won the men’s 100m butterfly S11 (1:05.44).

World record holder Arnost Petracek took his and Czech Republic’s second gold in Dublin in the men’s 50m backstroke S4 (44.87).

Nora Meister put Switzerland in the number one position for the second time at the Euros, in the women’s 400m freestyle S7 (5:21.20).

Greece took its sixth gold at the Euros following Alexandra Stamatopoulou’s victory in the women’s 50m backstroke S4 (53.29).
